Voks SoftSteel Darts

Voks is one of the most talked about darts manufacturers in the American darts community. Based in Ohio the are an American darts manufacturer who are not yet well known in japan. But in the US and Canada, they are widely recongized for their innovative designs, quality craftsmanship and excellent performance. We recently had the opportunity to test their patented “SoftSteel” convertible dart, which was one of the most unique and fun darts we have tried.

Voks’ SoftSteel dart is a convertible moving tip dart that can be used with either steel or soft tip points. For players who play both, this dart provides the advantage of being virtually the same weight and balance using either tip. The feel and control of the dart was the same in either environment offering players a chance to use a single set of darts both soft and steel play. Voks uses a patented spring loaded system as pictured below. uses a patented spring loaded system as pictured below.

This system prevents bounce outs while providing easy conversion between soft and steel tips. With a range of plunger weights, the darts can easily be changed to higher weights using tungsten plungers available in brass (included), 65, 80 and 90% tungsten (available as accessories). We tested the Spirit series (pictured below) dart with both steel and soft tips using the included brass plunger.

This dart has a tapered front end which was rather new to us. Having thrown mostly standard or slightly front weighted darts, I was surprised by the feel of this unusual shape. The balance is center oriented while the shape provides greater grip towards the back of the dart. The barrel surface is smooth towards the front. But Voks has very intelligently left the metal unpolished and a little brushed in texture to allow added grip to reduce slippage on release.

While we didn’t think this dart was the most attractive in the Voks line, but it was certainly one of the most impressive. The soft tips are strong and in tests conducted by a range of dart resources, lasted a very long time even when used on bristle boards. The spring steel tips were very effective on both bristle and standard hard boards. Switching between tips was easy. Our only concern was that the tiny spring may be easily lost in a dark dart bar. But Voks’ strong soft tips should make
changing tips a pretty rare task. We simply changed between steel and soft in a well lit area or at home before going to play.

While there are many movable point steel tip darts available, there are very few movable tip soft tip darts on the market. The moving tip allows the dart to absorb some of the impact when striking the board. The result is fewer bounce outs even when striking the edge of electronic board segments. The extra strong tips assure that slightly bent or broken tips are no longer a problem. Those frustrating lost points and time spent searching for your darts on the dart floor will be significantly reduced.

Voks’ SoftSteel darts are innovative and unique. Available in over a dozen barrel designs there is a style and grip for everyone. In both soft and steel play this dart will reduce bounce outs and provide a high quality dart for both. We loved these darts so much that we asked Voks to let us help introduce their darts to Japan. These are great darts made by people who love darts and love developing technology to help make your game better. Dartbug Score 4.5
