Rabab
Origin: Afghanistan

Rabab, Rubab or Robab, is a traditional musical instrument from Afghanistan, (there is a bowed instrument called Rebab, which is completely different instrument...) also played in Iran, Pakistan, India, etc.
4 fretted short neck, with goatskin covering the resonance body. 3 main melody strings, 3 to 5 drone strings and more than 10 sympathetic strings. Pegs are carved into flowers, a neck tends to have the sophisticated decoration. The neck length or body shape varies depends on the area.
The rabab is attested since the 7th century, mentioned in old Persian Sufi poems. With the Zerbaghali, one of the two National Instruments of Afghanistan.

There is a fil called "Sacred Sacred", visiting the 'Ground Zeros' of the planet and asks if it's possible to find hope in the darkest moments of human history. They visited one musician living in a small village of Afghanistan, he has buried his rabab in his backyard to protect it from Taliban.
One scene he digs up his rabab and puts his heart and soul into playing it - music is his life.
We strongly hope and support that Afghanistan will win back their peace and enjoy their music freely.
