Tembor

Origin: Uyghur

Tembor is pretty similar to Uzbek Tanbor, however it has much longer neck, probably the longest neck among all the lute instruments. Long neck is joined to the body, and it can be unscrewed for easy traveling.

The frets are made from pieces of white bone (or plastic nowadays), glued on in some diatonic scale. The thin fretboard runs a bit over the soundboard. 5 metal strings are in fact 3 courses : 1st & 2nd and 4th & 5th are double.
It is played by a wire finger plectrum on the index finger just like Tanbur.

The entire instrument made in Uyghur, especially Kashgar are extremely decorated with inlay in black and white patterns. It is worth just displaying...simply magnificent art.

The tembor has bright sonorous sounds, often used to play rythmic beats. Probably the most often used instrument in Uyghur folk music.
